UCT RAG

SHAWCO is UCT RAG’s sole beneficiary. Every rand raised by RAG is donated to SHAWCO’s community developmental efforts. Approximately R1 000 000 is donated every year through RAG’s fundraising initiatives. SHAWCO aims to improve the lives of developing communities within the Cape metropolitan area.

As an innovative student community service organization, SHAWCO’s mission is to promote the involvement of students and other members of the UCT community in order to educate students for life.

SHAWCO concentrates on two areas of development viz. primary health care and youth development. Each Year SHAWCO recruits about 500 student volunteers for mobile clinics and about 380 student volunteers for youth development programmers.

Currently SHAWCO has ten mainstream projects. SHAWCO Youth Development programmers operate at centers in Kensington, Khayelitsha, Manenberg and Nyanga and the mobile clinics serve the communities of Noordhoek, Browns Farm, Joe Slovo and Zebonele.
