Sax Appeal

SAX Appeal magazine is UCT RAG’s annual humour magazine, sold to the greater Cape Town community. It features first-rate comedy writing from South African celebrities, and young up-and-comers from UCT. The magazine is filled to the brim with edgy satire and spoof humour, all aimed at producing an easy and enjoyable read.

SAX Appeal, now in its 78th year, is one of the oldest RAG projects and probably one of the most anticipated UCT events. Just over 2 000 UCT students, reaching well over 200 000 people at 85 depots in Cape Town, sell 45 000 magazines. They dress up to a rather steamy theme that over the past few years have ranged from “SAX Sells”, “SAXXY Royale”, “SAX on the beach”, “SAXXY Supermodels”, “Red Hot SAX” and “SAX Education”.

Not only is SAX Appeal the one name that sticks in the mind of every student for many years after they have graduated but it is also the project that comfortably raises R600 000 of the R1.5 million that RAG raises for SHAWCO. The energized, fanatical UCT first year students are to saxulate or rather populate the streets of Cape Town, on Thursday 4th February 2010- a day on which the entire city jams in the spirit of SAX-mania!
