Floats Parade

“The floats procession is part of the age-old tradition of UCT. It is a
highly anticipated event, bringing out and reflecting the great
creativity and enthusiasm present in the students of UCT. This year,
our theme will be “Home Grown Heroes” - just think of the
possibilities!!!

The students work in teams representing their residences, societies,
faculties; even the RAG Committee is represented. Teams labour day-in
and day-out to weld giant metal frames together and decorate them with
colourful plastic. The process of float building climaxes on the night
before the procession where students work through the night to add the
finishing touches to floats.

It is an absolutely essential activity for any UCT student, with all
all RAG committee members, rookies, residence reps and students
participating. It is a family event, suitable for the young, old and
in-between.

The 2008 RAG floats procession will be held on Sat, 15th March over
the traditional

Adderly Street

route, collecting donations, every cent
of which goes to SHAWCO, RAG’s sole beneficiary.

The Floats Procession is a must-see, must-do event; every student
should have the experience of helping to build a float and every
citizen of

Cape Town should be there at the Procession to contribute to
the event and help raise money for SHAWCO.”
