The time has come once again when UCT RAG, one of the most prominent student-run organizations of the university is recruiting members for the 2010/11 Executive Committee. UCT RAG aims to build leaders who are well equipped for the working environment within an African context. The skills we offer are acquired through leading a team and implementing projects that contribute to raising over R1 million for SHAWCO.

The UCT RAG calendar has consisted of 12 projects in the past, these include Graduation Wine, the UCT Student Diary, O-Week, SAX Appeal, the Big Bash, RAG Olympics, the traditional Floats Procession, the Fashion Week, Golf Day, RAG Rookies, RAG Media and Launch Your Band. All projects are run by Project Managers and facilitated by Steering Committee members.

The 85 year old RAG Legend has been continued proudly from year to year through the amount of time, the range of innovative ideas, and the amount of energy and passion invested into these projects by its effective leadership. Times aren’t always easy in the RAG world, but at the end of the day it’s all worth it.

Application forms are available from the UCT RAG Office, 5th Floor Steve Biko Building, UCT Upper Campus and online at www.uctrag.com from 4th May 2010. All applications for Chairperson and Vice-Chairs will close 7th May 2010.  Applications for all Project Manager will close in August. Interviews will follow shortly after applications are due. Launch Your Band is an epic music competition that provides a platform for upcoming bands to showcase their work! The top entrants compete in a semi-final showdown on Jammie Plaza, at the University of Cape Town to a crowd of over 2000 students. The competition culminates with the top three bands playing alongside well known South African Bands at the finale! You can enter online or download entry forms here. Entries close 8th April.

30th March is the last day that you will be able to audition for Dance Off competition. So make your way to the auditions to showcase your talent and be in the running to dance at Fashion Show. Come as an individual or as a group.

The models have been chosen. Design and photography competition finalists have been selected. Dance-off contestants are rolling in thick and fast. Witness everything come together at UCT RAG Fashion Show.

Get to Adderley Street on Saturday, 13 March for the annual UCT RAG FLOATS PARADE from 10:00 – 12:30 for a carnivalesque display of soccer-style floats and other fantastical entertainment in anticipation for the World Cup!  Start saving your small change to donate to SHAWCO.

What do a Plaza, many people, sun, an insane obstacle course and of course groups of brave Olympian gods all have in common? Well, that could only be the most exciting of all events – The RAG Olympics 2010! Thursday, the 18th February 2010, played hold to the greatest ancient games in UCT history. Legends were made and great photos were taken. Coming soon to the site [the gallery] will be all the moments too good not to share, so come back soon.
